Westley Banks

(KNZA)--The Kickapoo Tribal Council Member accused of involvement in a home invasion on the Kickapoo Reservation Friday has resigned.

Tribal Council Vice-Chair Fred Thomas says Westley Banks submitted his letter of resignation Tuesday. Although he declined to comment specifically on the criminal case, Thomas said the vacancy will be addressed by the Council, which will appoint a replacement for the 35-year-old Banks sometime in the near future.

Banks, according to police, had fled the scene of the alleged crime, but was located later and booked into the Brown County Jail one day after the alleged home invasion. He's now formally charged with four felonies, aggravated kidnapping, aggravated robbery, aggravated assault and criminal threat, along with criminal damage to property.

He remains in the Brown County Jail on bond of $500,000.

Also accused of involvement in the home invasion is 21-year-old Andrew Darnell who is charged with aggravated robbery and criminal threat. His bond is set at $100,000.

Brown County Attorney Kevin Hill says preliminary hearings for both men are scheduled for next month.

A third suspect, 32-year-old Tyler “Tiger” Banks remains on the run and is considered armed and dangerous.
