St. Joseph School Supt. Resigns
05/04/2015

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (AP) - Months after a highly critical audit of the St. Joseph school district, superintendent Fred Czerwonka has resigned.

Czerwonka's resigned Friday night through the media and his attorney delivered a letter to the board during the weekend.

The St. Joseph News-Press reported the board was scheduled to meet Monday to formally accept the resignation and begin looking for a replacement.

Czrewonka has been on leave since January and the board voted in February to begin the process of terminating his contract.

He was one of several administrators who came under fire after an audit was released in February that found the district had paid at least $25 million in unapproved stipends to administrators in the last eight years. The district got a "poor" ranking after auditors found 17 areas of concern.
