Atchison Viaduct Repair Starts Monday
06/03/2015

(KAIR)--Repair work on Atchison's Sixth Street viaduct is scheduled to start Monday morning.

That, according to city Public Works and Utilities Director Justin Pregont, who adds that the planned repairs are needed to expand the useful life of the aging structure. He says “the scope of work includes eliminating the expansion joints in the viaduct and then a lot of miscellaneous concrete repair including parts of the sidewalk, parts of curb, some of the bridge abutments, and then some of the bridge piers. Over time, as salt is spread on the bridge...that salt has a decaying effect on concrete, and so this project goes in cuts out the bad sections of concrete and replaces it with something that is going to last.”

Bottorff construction is the primary contractor for the nearly $271,000 project, and Pregont says the work is expected to be completed within sixty days, weather permitting.
