Soldier Sendoff Saturday In Hiawatha
06/05/2015

(KNZA)--A Soldier Sendoff Saturday in Hiawatha.

That word was delivered to the Hiawatha City Commission this week by Chamber of Commerce Administrator Eric Thompson. “The National Guardsmen here in town are getting ready to go to Fort Riley in Salina for two weeks for annual training, and Maple Heights is going to serve them breakfast [Saturday morning] and then sell breakfast from the armory,” Thompson told the Commissioners. “What we'd like to request is that they [a National Guard convoy] be able to come down Oregon and I'm just going to invite the community out to wave at them and wish them well.”

The Convoy will roll down Oregon Street around 9:00 Saturday morning, with the Commission approving a police department escort for the event.
