(KAIR)--The 25-year-old Atchison man accused of attempting to bring a handgun into a federal office building in Washington D.C. has waived his right to a preliminary hearing.
Joshua Wheeler was serving as a summer intern for U.S. Congresswoman Lynn Jenkins when he was arrested in the nation's Capitol on Monday.
Formally charged with a felony count of carrying a pistol without a license, online court records state that Wheeler waived his right Thursday morning in a District of Columbia Courtroom and will next appear for a Felony Status Conference on the morning of June 29th.
Currently free on bond, terms of Wheeler's release include staying away from the U.S. Capitol Building and grounds, including all Congressional buildings.
He was placed on temporary leave by Jenkins' office immediately following his arrest.
A native of Ohio, Wheeler currently resides in Atchison where, according to his Facebook profile, he began studying political science and finance at Benedictine College last year.
