(KMZA)-- Plans for the replacement of a low-water crossing on the Nemaha-Marshall County line with a new bridge are moving forward.
Nemaha County Commissioners spoke by telephone Monday with Marshall County Commissioners concerning the project on 31st Road about a 1.5 miles south of K-9 Highway.
The low-water crossing was recently closed upon recommendation of bridge inspectors. The crossing will not reopen until a new bridge is built.
Marshall County has received an estimate of $240,000 to replace the low-water crossing with a 100-foot bridge.
Marshall County Commissioners said they were in favor of the project, but would like a commitment from the townships involved that they will keep the road cleared from trees and brush. Marshall County will speak to their township officials and Nemaha County will speak to Home Township officials about the road upkeep.
Marshall County will go out for bid for the bridge replacement project and let Nemaha County know what the bid comes in at. The two counties will split the cost of the project.
