(KNZA)--Fire caused significant damage to a rural Robinson home Sunday night.
The Robinson Fire Department was called to the Butch Perish residence at the corner of Prairie and 180th Streets at about 8:40.
Fire Chief Dennis Tietgens says when fire crews arrived they found black smoke coming from the eves of the two story home.
Tietgens said they were able to get the fire out, but the home sustained heavy heat, smoke and water damage.
Perish was home at the time of the fire and got out safely. Tietgens said Perish had fallen asleep while watching TV and was awaken by a smoke detector. He opened the door to the upstairs of the home and found smoke coming from the upstairs and dialed 911.
The state Fire Marshal's office is investigating the cause of the fire, which may have been started by lightning.
The Robinson Fire Department was assisted by the Hiawatha Fire Department, Everest Fire Department, Brown County Rescue Squad, Town and County EMS, and the Brown County Sheriff’s Department.
