SUV Stolen from Hiawatha
07/31/2015

(KNZA)--The Hiawatha Police Department is investigating the theft of a sport utility vehicle, and the public’s help is being sought.

Police Chief John Defore says the gray 2012 Chevy Suburban with Kansas plates was reported stolen from the downtown area shortly after 5:40 Thursday evening.
Defore says the vehicle had been left unlocked with the keys and a debit card inside.

He said officers are currently running down leads that were developed through the debit card transactions, with the last transaction tracked to a convenience store in Rushville, Missouri.

Two suspects have been identified through video surveillance at the stores.

The first is a white female in her early to mid 20’s, standing 5 foot 6 to 5 foot 8, weighing 160 to 180 pounds.  She was wearing black basketball style shorts, a pink sleeveless shirt, and a black baseball cap on  backwards. Her hair wasn’t visible under the cap.

The second suspect is a white male in his early to mid 20’s, standing 5 foot 8 to 5 foot 10, weighing 150 pounds, with short brown, slightly curly hair with pink dye.  He was wearing a black t-shirt with an indiscernible logo on it and dark shorts.

Anyone with information regarding the case is encouraged to call the Hiawatha Police Department at 785-742-2155 or 911.

Defore reminds residents to lock their vehicle and not to leave their keys or valuables inside the vehicle.
