(KMZA)--A zoning change request has been sent back to the Seneca Planning Commission.
The City Council Wednesday evening discussed a request to rezone two lots at the northeast corner of 7th and Walnut Streets from a residential to a commercial district.
City Administrator Matt Rehder says a motion to approve the zoning change failed on a 3-3 vote He said a protest petition had been submitted by neighboring property owners requiring approval of five of the six Council members.
The council then voted to send the request back to the Planning Commission for more discussion.
The Planning Commission had recommended approval of the zoning change with six conditions.
If approved, Keith Olberding says he plans to construct a structure on the property to be used for storage.
Following a hearing drawing no public comment, the Council adopted the 2016 city budget as published.
For the fourth consecutive year, the property tax levy will remain the same. However, the levy will will generate more than $31,000 in additional tax revenue due to an increase in the city’s assessed valuation.
