(KNZA)--A Jackson County attempted murder case has been placed on hold.
County Attorney Shawna Miller says 24-year-old Atchison resident Ryan Marcus Brownfield, through his attorney, has asked for an evaluation to determine whether or not he’s competent to stand trial.
A preliminary hearing for Brownfield had been set for Thursday.
Brownfield was arrested in August on a Jackson County warrant on four felony charges---including attempted second-degree murder, aggravated battery, obstruction of official duty and fleeing and attempting to elude a law enforcement officer.
The charges stem from a March 12th incident when a Jackson County Sheriff’s deputy escaped injury during a vehicle pursuit that began in Atchison County.
Authorities allege that Brownfield maneuvered the vehicle that was being pursued in an attempt to strike the deputy who was on foot.
