(KNZA)--Jackson County has been awarded a $40,000 grant for the purchase of several new docks for the Banner Creek Reservoir west of Holton.
The grant comes from the Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks, and Tourism.
The Holton Recorder reports the County Commission has agreed to allocate $40,000 to $50,000 in local matching funds for the purchase of the docks, which will be ADA compliant.
In the grant application, Reservoir Director John Kennedy had requested funding for the purchase of six new docks, but said the county wasn’t required to install that many.
He said once the docks are in place, sidewalks will have to be built to give visitors access to them.
Kennedy said he’s goal is to have everything installed by next spring.
