Missy Newell Memorial Run Saturday
09/29/2015

(KNZA)--The 14th Annual Missy Newell Memorial Run will take place Saturday morning in downtown Hiawatha.

Newell, who died in October 2001 after a five-year battle with breast cancer, set up a Memorial Fund prior to her death in order to assist those in the local community battling cancer.  Along with assisting those battling cancer, the fund also provides a $500 scholarship for a Hiawatha High School graduate.

Nearly $8,000 was raised from last year’s memorial walk/run, with an additional 11-hundred dollars in various fundraisers that was donated to the fund.

Registration starts at 7:00 at the corner of Sixth and Oregon Streets, with the one mile walk and 5K run both beginning at 8:00.  The awards ceremony will follow at  9:00.

The cost is $20 to register for the event.

Anyone with questions can contact Michelle Witham at (785) 806-6400 or Courtney Riley at 742-2937.

Registrations for the run/walk can be done online, as well as donations made to the event any time of the year. Visit the website at: www.MissyNewellMemorial.com
