(KAIR)--Atchison Police are searching for a vehicle reported stolen from the north side of the city. “That occurred on Monday night, in a parking lot at Benedictine College,” Police Chief Mike Wilson tells MSC News. “It's actually at the intersection of Mound and Washington Street.”
Wilson says prior to the 2003 Toyota being driven away from the area, three other vehicles were also targeted, with two damaged by someone apparently attempting to steal them. “Two of the four, there was an attempt to steal the cars by trying to work on the steering column, and there was criminal damage to those two cases and the theft was unsuccessful. A third case, they made entry into the car and stole a stereo, but it did not appear like an attempt was even made to take that car.”
Wilson says the search for the Toyota, along with suspects in the case, is ongoing. “It has not yet been recovered so we're not sure if they manipulated the steering column but obviously they were able to take the care without the availability of keys. It does have Nebraska tag SGC847 on it at the time of the theft.”
Anyone with information related to the crime is urged to contact Atchison Police or 911.
Editor's Note: Atchison Police, on Thursday, reported a fifth vehicle also sustained criminal damage, and theft, around the same time, at the same location.
