(KNZA)--An investigation that began last month, following an alleged attack in Horton that sent a man to the hospital, has led to the arrest of a 22-year-old woman.
Horton Police Chief John Calhoon says Ellen Keo was taken into custody this week in connection with the late September attack. “On the evening of September 29th, we were called to the 100 block of East 6th [in Horton] in regards to an individual that had been severely beaten,” Calhoon tells MSC News. “Initially there was some conflicting stories, [the] investigation was kind of very unclear at that time. The individual was transported to Horton Hospital and a short time later transferred to KU Medical Center.”
Calhoon says the investigation ultimately led authorities to Keo's residence on the Kickapoo Reservation, west of Horton. “Information led to us conducting a number of interviews. We obtained a search warrant as a result of that information on the 13th of October and we executed initially a search warrant on the Kickapoo Reservation, the residence of Ellen Keo.”
Calhoon says a second search warrant was also obtained during the initial search, and that helped lead to the apprehension of Keo.
Brown County Attorney Kevin Hill says Keo has been formally charged with aggravated battery, criminal possession of a weapon, identified as a shotgun with a barrel less than 12 inches, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
She remains in the Brown County Jail, held on a $250,000 bond.
A preliminary hearing is planned for next week.
