(KNZA)--No fire code violations were found at the building that houses the Elwood senior citizens center.
That’s what Elwood Fire Chief Alvin Wood told the Doniphan County Commission last week.
Wood said the recent inspection was performed under National Fire Codes and National Fire Prevention Association Codes. He also said if the occupancy load is less than 50 people there is no requirement for a second exit.
The Elwood Leisure Hour Senior Center has been temporarily re-located to the Elwood Fire Station until improvements and repairs can be completed at the building. That followed the recent collapse of a portion of the ceiling at the building, which formerly housed the old Lincoln School. The building is owned by Riverside USD 114.
The Commission thanked Wood and the entire Fire District #4 Board for allowing the senior citizens to use their fire station.
