The 2018 recipient of the Elmer F. Heiman Scholarship is Bailey Schmitz, the daughter of Kenny and Diane Schmitz. Schmitz, a graduate of Nemaha Central High School will attend Washburn University in the fall with the intent of majoring in Nursing.
She shared in her written application that after becoming a Registered Nurse she plans to work in a clinic or hospital with an emphasis in OB/GYN care. After receiving some in the field experience, Schmitz anticipates furthering her education and eventually becoming a Nurse Practitioner.
This scholarship was established in 2008 by Aurelia Heiman and her family in memory of Elmer F. Heiman. Elmer Heiman was a member of the first graduating class at Baileyville High School. After high school, he was drafted into the army and then later returned home to work at Baileyville State Bank.
The Elmer F. Heiman Scholarship, in the amount of $1,000, is awarded to a graduating senior who is from the former B & B School.
It is with great pleasure that the Nemaha County STEP Foundation is able to assist Elmer Heiman’s family to leave a lasting “footprint” that carries on his name and memory.
