The Onaga Historical Society and the Onaga Area Veterans are teamed together to offer a Memoir Writing Workshop on June 12 at the Onaga Senior Center, 200 Bypass Road, Onaga. The workshop will begin at 2:00 p.m. The memoir workshop is part of the Vietnam Veterans History Project and will document the memories of those living in Kansas. “Remembering the Vietnam War in Pottawatomie County” is about the our, local involvements in the Vietnam War.
Al Ortolani, Memoir Writing Workshop Facilitator from Lenexa, Kansas, will lead the writing experience. The goal of the workshop is to begin documentation of Vietnam Veterans memoirs of the Vietnam War; however, family members are encouraged to attend to begin their documentation of what it was like to have a son or brother serving during that time in Vietnam. Memoirs of what it was like to have a family member, classmate, etc., return from Vietnam are important pieces of the documentation of this era also.
Even though the workshop is designed to encourage those with Vietnam War memories to begin their story, all community members of any age are invited to attend the free workshop to learn from Mr. Ortolani on how to begin your personal memoirs. No prior writing experience is necessary. Vietnam War Project is supported with a grant from the Humanities Kansas in partnership with the Library of Congress.
