Double Your Spring Contribution to KRC
05/15/2019

KRC has been awarded a 2019 general support grant- if we can match that $15,000 with contributions!

These are general support dollars-- the dollars that enable us to provide you farm and food stories from around Kansas, that allow us to monitor the State Legislature, to provide a much-needed alternative voice and analysis, and to follow changing or emerging issues and help you address those challenges.

For 40 years, KRC has been the alternative voice for a new food and farm system in Kansas, providing analysis, new ideas and opportunities and inspiration to rural and urban people and communities. We celebrate our 40th anniversary this fall, and we  hope you will see this as an opportunity to double your money as a special gift and commitment to sustainable farming and a sustainable food system.

The heart of our mission and work is to build an ecologically based farming and food system... one that will weather the storms of climate change, the divisive political environment, and build a better future for rural and urban alike.  As we enter a new era in KRC's work, we will continue to:
  • Promote widespread adoption of more diversification (biological and social) in the farming and food system in Kansas to ensure more farms, opportunities and a more resilient future.
  • Promote expansion of local/regional food production, processing and marketing as a way of supporting community development and opportunities for meaningful livelihoods;
  • Explore farm transition and succession opportunities making land and resource access easier for the next generation of farmers;
On the agenda for the remainder of 2019:
  • Hosting summer town hall meetings across the state to further community dialogues on food and energy issues;
  • Engaging small meat producers, processors and consumers in two Learning Circles to discuss challenges, barriers and needs;
  • Conducting a "Pesticides, Pollinators and Drift" workshop and producing two educational videos on what you need to know;
  • Releasing our video on "Voices from Southwest Kansas: Immigrant Perspectives" which is part of a broader assessment of Southwest Kansas food and farming to come later.
  • Hosting KRC's fall conference, "Planting Ideas, Growing Our Future" on Nov.8-9 in Wichita featuring keynoter Fred Iutzi, President of the Land Institute speaking on "Agriculture's Role in Ecological Sustainability and Economic Justice"; and Colorado State University's Local Food Extension Economist Becca Jablonski on the economics of local/regional food systems.
  • Last but not least, Celebrating Our 40th Anniversary with a Special Reception and Social Friday evening Nov. 8 at our conference.
Please give this spring knowing your dollars will double your support via the match grant! We have until June 30, but we hope to meet our goal early!
