Horton City Commissioners met for their regular session Monday Night.
Following regular business during the session, including the approval of the contract with Horton Emergency Services, for
5-thousand-dollars, and approval of the lease agreement with the Fish and Game Club, Commissioners went behind closed doors for two executive sessions.
The first, lasting 20 minutes, resulted in no action, and was focused on non-elected personnel. The second, lasting 15 minutes, was apparently focused on the selection process for hiring a new police chief, as that topic was discussed by the Commission immediately following the second executive session.
The action that followed involved setting a special meeting for this coming Friday, with three candidates for the post to be interviewed.
While that process will take place behind closed doors, each interview will end with the Commission returning to public session.
The special meeting, with the interviews the only order of business, is set to run from
8:00 Friday morning through 3:00 that afternoon.
A two hour recess will be included during the day, with the break to be taken from 11 in the morning until 1:00 Friday afternoon.
The need to hire a new Chief of Police follows the surprise resignation of longtime Chief Dick Luzier. He made his decision public immediately following the Christmas Holiday.
He has not made public the reason for his decision.
Luzier's final day is January 25th.
