The Kansas Department of Commerce has announced that Hiawatha, Highland and Robinson are among twenty-one Kansas communities that will share a total of nearly $7.8 million in federal grants through the Community Development Block Grant program.
As we told you earlier this week, Hiawatha will receive a $500,000 grant for improvements to the city’s sanitary sewer system. The city will remove or replace about 489 manholes and replace more than 96-thousand linear feet of sewer line. Other funds will provide a more than one million dollar match.
Highland has been awarded a $500,000 grant for improvements to the city’s water system. The project will involve construction of a new 125,000 gallon elevated storage tank and water line improvements. Other funds will provide a nearly $805,000 match.
Robinson has been awarded a nearly $124,000 grant to install a new intake, control and transfer structures at a lagoon. The Kansas Department of Health and Environment will provide nearly $124,000 in matching funds.
