Krumme Arboretum Enters 20th Year in Falls City
02/13/2012

This year marks the 20th year since the first tree plantings at the Itha Krumme Memorial Arboretum in Falls City.  The arboretum, located near Stanton Lake, has grown to include approximately 70 species of plants native to Nebraska and surrounding states.
The Krumme Arboretum receives no taxpayer dollars, and as it enters its 20th year, a campaign is underway to raise funds to support the park.  Arboretum Curator Gerald Hopp says letters have been sent to previous donors.  He explains how one can help support the arboretum financially.  (play audio  :33)
Hopp explains what the funds to the arboretum are used for.  (play audio  :51)
To mark the 20th anniversary of the Itha Krumme Arboretum, Hopp says a couple special events are being planned for this year.  One is a volkswalk.  (play audio  :23)
The other special events that are in the planning stages are Concerts in the Park.  (play audio   :30)
In the last year, Hopp says the arboretum has received memorial funds earmarked for new trees and an Eagle Scout project.  Volunteers put in over 500 hours of work at the arboretum in 2011.
