35 year old Steven L. Darveau Jr. of Barada appeared in Richardson County Court Monday on a felony charge of manslaughter. The charge stems from an accident August 5th of last year on Highway 73 south of Falls City.
Darveau is charged with the unintentional death of 64 year old Edward Packard, while in the commission of an unlawful act, to-wit careless driving or failure to yield right of way or driving left of center.
Darveau was issued a citation in January. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for March 7th at 2 p-m in Richardson County Court.
Nebraska Assistant Attorney General Edward Vierk has been appointed Special Richardson Count Attorney due to a conflict of interest with County Attorney Robert Meyer. Darveau was formerly a Falls City Police Officer.
Packard, from Ohio, was northbound on a motorcycle near the Falls City Jaycees event arena south of Falls City when the accident occurred.
Darveau was released on his own recognizance.
