A new tool, intended to keep children safe while online, is being provided to Jackson County residents, with the safety software funded through registered offender fees(Play Audio :07 seconds)
That's Jackson County Sheriff Tim Morse who says he's impressed with the ComputerCOP software monitoring tool, and the way it works to keep children safe from on-line predators(Play Audio :30 seconds)
What ComputerCOP does is simple: look for key words in electronic messages sent to children and then notify parents or guardians of the potential danger(Play Audio :26 seconds)
The program is being offered for free, on a first come first serve basis, to Jackson County families with school age children.
A limited number of ComputerCOP software copies are now available through the Royal Valley School District Office, the Jackson Heights District Office and, for the Holton area, at the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office.
If you have school age children and live in Jackson County and would like a copy, you can contact the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office at 364-2251, the Royal Valley School District office at 966-2246 or the Jackson Heights School District office at 364-2194.
