An Atchison teenager has pleaded no contest to charges in connection with an officer assault case in Doniphan County and been placed on probation.
19-year-old Jonathan Ogletree recently entered the plea in Doniphan County District Court to an amended charge of obstructing official duty, battery and criminal trespass, all misdemeanors.
Ogletree was given a suspended jail sentence and placed on 18 months supervised probation.
Meanwhile, the preliminary hearings for two co-defendants in the case, 19-year-old Antonio Clayter of Atchison and 18-year-old Callie Percival of Pawnee City, Nebraska., were postponed Tuesday in Doniphan County Court to May 15th.
Clayter is facing seven felony counts—including aggravated battery of a law enforcement officer—along with a misdemeanor charge of criminal trespass.
Percival is facing a felony count of obstructing official duty and misdemeanor battery.
The charges stem from an incident on March 6th in a dorm room on the Highland Community College campus. Highland police officer Arthur Buckingham was allegedly assaulted by Clayter, who had been handcuffed, while he was attempting to arrest him. Buckingham was hospitalized after suffering a fractured left shoulder. Clayter also allegedly attempted to grab the officers gun.
