Horton residents may have noticed a number of out of area law enforcement vehicles in the city last week.
It was not an emergency that brought them to town; instead, the Horton Police Department, partnering with the National Rifle Association, was host to the NRA Law Enforcement Handgun/Shotgun Training Program.
Held at both the Blue Building and the Horton Sports Shooting Range, the program brought in 24 officers who learned what it takes to become an NRA Certified Handgun/Shotgun instructor. They now take that information and instruct their local offices, using NRA teaching methods and lesson plans.
One officer came from as far as Connecticut, with others arriving from Texas, Oklahoma and Missouri, to attend the training course.
