Fall Lawn Care Tips
(KLZA) Grass, outdoor plants and trees took a beating this summer because of the drought and temperatures in the 100's for weeks on end. UNL Extension Educator John Fech (FESH) has been surveying the situation. ( PLAY AUDIO :09 SECONDS )
Fech says don't be too envious of those partially green lawns because anything green is likely weeds or crabgrass. He recommends no fertilizing or re-seeding now and just let the lawn winter-over and do both in the spring. He says the plants that suffered the most were the ones planted this past spring.
Fech says there is very little one can do except some low maintenance care. ( PLAY AUDIO :09 SECONDS )
He says when it comes to trees, they have just gone through one of the most stressful summers ever and it is likely that many won't survive through the winter unless you watered and cared for them during the drought. He says you may want to wait until spring to decide to take any down because there is a chance they will be ok.
He says again, as we head into fall it may be best just to leave well enough alone. ( PLAY AUDIO :10 SECONDS )
