(KAIR)--The sound of an explosion, followed by numerous rescue crew sirens, awoke some Atchison County residents around 3:00 Sunday morning; and, once details began to emerge, the reason why became clear: a rural home was fully engulfed in fire.
The Walnut Township Volunteer Fire Department, assisted by those from Shannon and Lancaster, worked to battle the blaze, reported around 3:00 in the morning, at 244th Road, south of the Atchison City Limits.
The occupants of the home, identified as the Jodi and Pam Wilburn family, managed to escape with no injuries reported.
The family of five is currently staying with relatives, with the American Red cross assisting with immediate monetary and food needs.
The official cause remains undetermined, but the initial investigation indicates it may have been started by a barbecue grill on the back deck of the home.
