( KNZA )-Brown County employees will receive a 50 cent an hour pay raise, effective January 1st, 2013.
The county commissioners unanimously approved the pay increase Monday for the county’s sixty-five employees—excluding the commission who will receive no raise.
Funding for the pay increase had been included in the 2013 budget approved by commissioners in August.
Following discussion, the commission also voted 2-1 to pay 100 percent of the single health insurance plan for 2013, with no additional compensation for the other tiers.
The county had previously paid for a portion of the other tiers, but faced with a 18 ½ percent premium increase from it’s health insurance provider, the commission decided the county could no longer continue doing so.
Commissioner Warren Ploeger cast the lone no vote, says he didn’t want to abruptly end paying for a portion of the additional coverage.
In addition, the commission voted to keep the dental insurance as is, with the employee and family premiums being totally paid by the county.
Following a closed-door session, the commission voted to hire Bruce Kleppe of Hiawatha to fill a vacancy on the District 3 road crew. Kleppe was among two candidates interviewed for the position.
