( KNZA )-Wire handled sparklers and lit Chinese lanterns are no longer allowed in the unincorporated areas of Jackson County.
The Jackson County Commission this week unanimously approved a resolution that prohibits the use and sale of the fireworks in rural areas of the county.
In passing the resolution, commissioners said they are concerned with the safety and welfare of the county residents and property.
The commission said residents in the county report that multiple handled sparklers have been tied together to create a “ bomb type device.” In addition, they said lit Chinese lanterns create a fire hazard in dry conditions.
The resolution is effective immediately.
