( KNZA )--A primary election will held Tuesday in Doniphan County to narrow the field of candidates for Elwood mayor and a position on the Riverside USD 114 school board.
Four candidates are vying for Elwood mayor. They include incumbent George Mitchell Jr, Charles Adkins, Travis Holcomb, and Bill White.
Also four candidates are seeking the District 1 position on the Riverside school board, which is the unexpired term currently held by Tina Kimberlin. The candidates include Kimberlin, Crystal Hontz, John Kiehnhoff and Christopher Walters.
The two candidates getting the most votes in each race will advance to the April 2nd general election ballot.
Voters will cast their ballots at the Elwood Community Building and Wathena Community Building. The polls will be open Tuesday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Because of the expected winter storm, Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach is encouraging voters to submit an advance voting ballet. He will extend the deadline to turn in advance ballots to 7:00 this evening instead of the original noon deadline. Due to the change, the Doniphan County Courthouse will remain open until 7:00 this evening.
