Drought Proof Your Farm
03/11/2013

Did last year’s drought negatively impact your farm or livestock operation? Think we’re in for another dry year this year? If you want to learn how to mitigate the effects of drought on your farm, be sure to attend this FREE workshop.

March 27 at the Blue Building in Horton, 5:30 – 8:00 pm

Featured Speaker: Dale Strickler (farmer, cattleman and educator). Dale will entertain and educate you as he describes what to do and what not to do to make the best of a dry situation.

Crop producers will learn about cover crops and other management techniques that will:
    - Improve rainfall infiltration & soil water-holding capacity
           -  Improve the ability of plants to extract water from the soil
    - Reduce evaporation and runoff
    - Increase crop rooting depth
Livestock producers, there’s no need to settle for the standard “reduce stocking rates and wean early” advice alone. Learn how to manage pastures to improve drought tolerance, use cover crops to grow extra forage and discover feed resources you didn’t even know you had!

A free catered meal will be served 5:30 to 6:30 pm

**In order to ensure we have enough food, please call 785-284-3422 by March 25 to pre-register**
