(KNZA)--The search continues for Robert Helms, the man the Kansas Bureau of Investigation says continues to portray himself as a law enforcement officer in a regional scheme to gain money illegally.
According to the KBI, the 45-year-old Helms shows a worker a false badge in order to cash fake payroll checks and write bad checks to buy items.
It was earlier this year that investigators says Helms came to the local area, allegedly committing the scam at banks in Sabetha and Holton on January 20th. He is believed to have struck again locally on January 24th in Blue Rapids
Now, the KBI believes he targeted a grocery store Wednesday afternoon in Walsh Colorado, just 18 miles from the Kansas border.
They say he portrayed himself as deputy from a fictitious Adams County, Kansas Sheriff's Office, producing a fake law enforcement badge.
The KBI, using Helms' previous pattern, believes he may attempt to pass bad checks in that area over the next few days.
Last month, the KBI released a list of 23 Kansas communities, and one town in Arkansas, where they believe Helms has pulled the scam.
Anyone who sees Helms or has information as to his whereabouts should contact their local law enforcement or the KBI a 1-800-KS-CRIME.
