(KAIR) -- An Atchison parochial school remains in a prayerful state after five of their students were injured in a single vehicle accident late last week.
Maur Hill Mount Academy held several masses and rosaries over the past few days for the students involved.
One of those students, 17-year-old John Shankman, is still in intensive care at the KU Med Center with head trauma after undergoing several surgeries after being thrown from the back of a truck bed that rolled over.
The four other students were eventually treated and released from the Atchison Hospital by the weekend.
School President Phil Baniewicz visited Shankman and says while he’s still in critical condition, he’s showed signs of improvement.

Baniewicz believes continued prayer will be vital as time moves along for Shankman’s recovery.

Baniewicz says a couple of the other injured teens have returned to school Monday and believes the remainder will return to school later this week.
