( KNZA )--A two-vehicle accident on U.S. 75 Highway in Jackson County Friday night sent a Whiting woman to the hospital.
The Kansas Highway Patrol says the accident occurred shortly after 9:30 at 142nd Road.
The Patrol says 34-year-old Holly Gudenkauf was traveling north in the outside lane when a westbound pickup, which was crossing the highway, failed to yield at a stop sign to her car. Gudenkauf struck the pickup driven by 53-year-old Steven Hawks of Topeka ;and, according to Jackson County Sheriff Tim Morse, that caused Gudenkauf's vehicle's engine compartment to catch on fire, with Sheriff's Deputies extinguishing the flames.
Gudenkauf, who was wearing a seat belt, was transported to the Holton Community Hospital for treatment of possible injuries.
Hawks, who was not hurt, was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence, reckless driving and transporting an open container.
The Hoyt and Mayetta Fire Departments also assisted at the scene.
