(MSC News)--Two Missouri men are being held in the Atchison County, Ks Jail without bond following a multi-county pursuit Saturday afternoon involving a  pick-up truck reportedly stolen in Platte County, Missouri.

Atchison County Sheriff Jack Laurie says the driver, 23-year-old Trent Wiseman of Blue Springs, and his passenger, 29-year-old Jacob Abney of Independence,  were both taken into custody.

Wiseman was arrested on charges of felony fleeing and eluding, interference with a law enforcement officer and possession of stolen property. Abney was arrested on charges of possession of stolen property and interference with a law enforcement officer.

Laurie said the pursuit, in Kansas, began when Buchanan County authorities, after being notified by Platte County,  pursued the suspect vehicle into Atchison, across the Amelia Earhart Memorial Bridge, on U.S. Highway 59. It was there spike strips were put in place by Atchison Police. The passenger side tires were flattened, but it remains unclear whether it was the spike strips, or the attempt to avoid them, that caused the flat tires.

That didn't deter Wiseman, who continued to drive the truck,  on its rims, all the way into Nemaha County, first traveling through Atchison, onto U.S. Highway 73, where he made his way into Brown County. Atchison Police, the Atchison County Sheriff's Office and the Kansas Highway Patrol continued to pursue the truck, with speeds seldom exceeding 60 miles per hour.

The suspect vehicle passed through the Brown County community of Horton, heading west onto Highway K-20, which he traveled until he reached Nemaha County, where the truck became stuck on a muddy county road. That happened north of Wetmore, at 56th Road and W Road.

Wiseman was arrested at the scene. Abney jumped from the truck about a mile east of where the vehicle got stuck. He was found in ravine in a field a short distance north of the roadway with the assistance of the Highway patrol K-9 unit and other officers from surrounding agencies.

Officers during the pursuit were on high alert, following the initial report that the occupants of the truck fired a weapon as they traveled through Buchanan County. Now, Atchison Police say the handgun, believed to have been used in that incident, was found Sunday at an Atchison residence as the homeowner mowed his lawn.

Multiple law enforcement agencies, including the Brown, Jackson and Nemaha County Sheriff's Departments, and Horton and Kickapoo Police, provided assistance during the incident.

Along with the truck, the two men are also believed to have been involved with another vehicle theft, occurring around the same time, in Platte County. Authorities say numerous stolen items were found inside the truck.
