Muscotah Museum Project Moves Forward
05/14/2013

(KAIR)--Volunteers are wanted, and donations needed, as the City of Muscotah moves forward  with plans to honor native Joe Tinker, a former member of the Chicago Cubs.

This weekend, from Friday through Sunday, is desginated as a Kansas Explorers work weekend, as the city's former water tower is converted into “the worlds largest baseball,” which will serve as the Joe Tinker Museum, housing related memorabilia, as well as items related to Muscotah's history. At the same time, a mini Wrigley Field is being constructed near the site of the future museum, and will appear as a scaled down version of the field Tinker played on in the early 1900's.

Spearheading both the work weekend, and the donation drive, is the Kansas Sampler Foundation.  Their information, including volunteers needed, and donations that can be made, can be found here.

Local residents, from Muscotah and surrouding communties are encouraged to join those from other locations from across the state in volunteering time during the work weekend.

On Friday, lunch will be provided at the City Building beginning at noon.

On Saturday, a grilled lunch, with sides, will be served near the museum at noon, followed by a 5:00 Community Pot Luck at the United Church Friendship Hall.

On Sunday, lunch begins at noon in the City Building.

Organizers hope to have the project completed by the annual Rose Festival in early June.
