(KTNC) - The Johnson-Brock Board of Education approved a couple of hires and wages for some district employees Monday night.
The board approved a three percent salary increase for the district’s non-certified staff for the next school year. A teaching contract was approved with Nicholas Krenk to teach physical education and technology courses in the next year.
Superintendent Jeff Koehler says Landonn Mackey was hired to help part-time with some summer maintenance projects, to free up custodians to prepare for the next school year. (play audio :24)
In other action, the Johnson-Brock School Board approved overnight stays this summer for seven students to compete at National History Day in College Park, Maryland, and for 11 students to attend FBLA Nationals in Anaheim, California.
The board approved the Core Services Resolution with ESU 4 and the agreement for services with the Southeast Nebraska Regional Program.
Koehler says they also agreed to recognize the activity of two Johnson-Brock students involved in the Iowa High School Rodeo Association as a school activity. (play audio :28)
By recognizing the activity, Koehler says the students can take excused absences when they attend events in Iowa.
The board continued discussion about a proposed building addition. Koehler says they’re ready to present plans to the public. (play audio :19)

Johnson-Brock students recognized Principal Jacque Kelsay with a farewell presentation. Kelsay accepted a position as Elementary Principal in the Auburn School District.
Koehler says pre-school numbers are looking strong next year, with 20 three-year-olds and 17 four-year-olds enrolled.
