05/21/2013

(KTNC) -  Eleven people were killed in traffic crashes in Nebraska last month.
The Department of Roads says the 11 fatalities occurred in 10 crashes and eight of the 10 vehicle occupants killed were not wearing seat belts.
Officials say there were three fatalities on the interstate, four on non-interstate highways, and four on local roads.  Ten of the fatalities occurred in rural locations.  The D-O-R also says one of the fatalities was a motorcyclist and one of the fatal crashes involved a collision with a deer.
The 11 fatalities last month is the same number as were killed on Nebraska roads in April of 2012.
To date this year, there have been 58 fatalities in 52 crashes in the state of Nebraska.  Last year at this time, there were 59 fatalities in 55 crashes.  Of the 53 vehicle occupants killed so far this year, state officials say that 45 were not wearing seat belts.
