Beatrice Teens Cited For Football Field Prank
(KLZA) Police cited five people in connection with the spreading of 100 pounds of birdseed on Beatrice High School's artificial turf football field.
The Beatrice Daily Sun reports the five people turned themselves into police and received misdemeanor citations Tuesday.
They are one 18-year-old, three 16-year-olds and a 17-year-old. Police are seeking another teen believed to be involved.
The teens told police they dumped the birdseed because they thought it would be funny to see birds covering the field.
Some seed was vacuumed up, but much of it got into the fibers of the turf and could force the replacement of crumb rubber that supports the turf.
Police Chief Bruce Lang says the teens were charged with misdemeanors because damage isn't expected to top the $1,500 threshold for a felony.
