Drug Test Lands Shooting Suspect Back In Jail

Desiree Shopteese

(KNZA)--A 22-year old Mayetta woman, serving 18-months of supervised probation for the role she played in the January shooting death of a Mayetta man, is back in custody for violating the terms of her probation.

Jackson County Attorney Shawna Miller says Desiree Shopteese was arrested Friday after testing positive for methamphetamine use.

Shopteese in April pled guilty to a lesser charge of obstructing apprehension or prosecution in a felony and was sentenced last month to eight months in prison. However, that was suspended, and Shopteese was to serve no time behind bars if she successfully completed the probation.

A court date in connection with her probation violation is not yet set.

Her arrest came on the same day that co-defendant Lloyd Wabaunsee, charged with 2nd degree murder in the shooting death of Kevin Stanley, waived his preliminary hearing and was bound over to Jackson County District Court.

His arraignment is set for the morning of July 26th.
