( KNZA )--Signs will be erected marking a historic trail through Doniphan County.
Representatives of the Doniphan County Historical Society and the president of the Gateway Chapter of the Oregon and California Trails Association met with the county commission Monday to request permission to erect 59 signs throughout 20 miles of Doniphan County depicting the route of the Oregon and California Trail.
The commission voted to enter into an agreement with the U.S. Department of the Interior National Parks Service for the installation of the official national historic trail signs.
The county road and bridge department will erect the signs and provide the sign posts and hardware.
Following a public hearing, the commission approved the vacation of a portion of Diamond Springs Road.
One person appeared at the hearing to voice their opposition to the road vacation.
The commission also voted to hire Ryan Kerns to work on a full-time basis in the 2nd District road shop and Kenneth Thompson to work on a part-time basis in all county road shops effective July 15th.
