(KTNC) - A man is charged with attempted murder and assault in Richardson County Court, as the result of an altercation at a Falls City home earlier this month.
Thirty-two year-old Desiderio Hernandez was charged with attempt of a class one felony – attempted 2nd degree murder and 2nd degree assault – during an initial appearance in Richardson County Court Monday.
Authorities say Hernandez cut the throat of Damon Gates during an altercation at a home in the 800 block of Chase Street late in the evening of July 14th.
A witness told police that the two men had gotten into a physical altercation earlier in the day, and after tensions had appeared to calm, Hernandez attacked Gates from behind as Gates was standing just inside the doorway of the home. Gates told authorities Hernandez cut his throat with a razor wire, and also broke his nose during the earlier confrontation.
Gates was taken to Community Medical Center in Falls City.
Hernandez was arrested last Thursday. His bond was set at $200,000 Monday. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on August 26th in Richardson County Court.
