(KTNC) - The 31st annual edition of the Deer Creek Sodbusters’ Antique Machinery Show and Plowing Bee is this weekend near Sterling.
The full day of activities begins with the flag raising ceremony at 8:00 a.m. Sunday, followed by an outdoor church service at 8:15.
Robert Wolff helps coordinate the show, which will feature a large exhibit of antique tractors, steam and gas engines, and antique automobiles, along with machinery and farming demonstrations. (play audio :28 “blacksmith shop.”)
Wolff says he anticipates there will be between 100 and 150 antique tractors at the show. (play audio :30 “special show for us.”)
The day will also include arts and crafts exhibits, a flea market, children’s activities, a parade, musical entertainment from the Shoestring Band, and a program on “the life and legacy of Annie Oakley” from guest speaker Charlotte Endorf.
One new attraction this year is a display of newly discovered artifacts from the South St. John Lutheran Church. Wolff’s great-grandfather Julius Wolff founded the church, which closed in 1983 after its 100th anniversary. (play audio :41 “show this year.”)
The Deer Creek Show grounds are located four-and-a-half miles south of Sterling on 610 Avenue.
The Deer Creek Sodbusters’ show is the only antique tractor and machinery show in the state of Nebraska to be designated a “Local Legacy” by the U.S. Library of Congress.
