( KNZA )-The Brown County Commission has published a proposed 2014 budget of nearly $9.3 million that calls for a just under one mill increase in the property tax levy.
The budget contains an estimated tax rate of 37.28 mills, which is to generate nearly $4.8 million.
The commission attributed the mill levy increase primarily to a more than 3 million dollar decrease in the state assessed valuation placed on pipelines, railroads and utilities that run through the county.
The commission will consider adoption of the budget following a public hearing at their meeting next Monday. The hearing is set for 9 o’clock that morning in the commission chambers
