Grant to be Sought for Hiawatha Street Improvement Project
09/09/2013

(KNZA)-A grant will be sought through the Kansas Department of Commerce for a street improvement project in Hiawatha.
The city commission last week approved a contract with Lawrence-based Governmental Assistance Services to prepare a Community Development Block application for the improvement of Lodge Road at cost of $7,950. The grant application is due at the end of the month.
If awarded, the grant would pay for 50 percent of the project cost.
Public Works Director Dave Grimm cautioned that the grant is more difficult to obtain that other grants.
Lodge Road provides access to McDonald’s, the Hiawatha Best Western Plus Hotel DaVita Dialysis Center and Little Hands Day Care.  Grimm said the Lodge Road is in worst business street in town.
The city should learn next February if the grant is successful.
