(KNZA)--Two longtime Horton Elementary School teachers are retiring.
Following an executive session Monday evening, the USD 430 Board of Education accepted the resignations of 3rd grade teacher Cindy Gaskell and 1st grade teacher Connie Thorson, effective at the end of the 2013-2014 school year.
Gaskell has been taught in the district 34 years and Thorson for 33 years.
The board also accepted the resignation of Horton High School counselor Jerry Burks, effective at the end of the current school year. Burks has been with the district 2 years.
In addition, the board voted to hire Jeff Folger and Karen Kimmi to share the responsibilities and pay as Horton High School forensics coaches.
In other business, Superintendent Dr. Steve Davies informed the board the district has again received a Small Rural Schools Achievement program grant from the U.S. Department of Education in the amount of $21,000 to be used towards technology. Smart boards and I-Pads will be considered for purchase with the funds.
