(KAIR)--Students and staff at Atchison's Benedictine College received quite a scare Thursday morning when a truck collided with a gas line near the main campus cafeteria.
Despite the potential seriousness and danger of the situation, Director of Marketing and Communications for the college Steve Johnson assures everyone that everything is under control, that the gas line has been shut off and there is no immediate danger to anyone. However, as a precaution, the surrounding buildings have been evacuated. These buildings are mostly academic and residential.
Since the cafeteria is closed, Johnson says they will be sending students to other dining facilities on campus, with the only change being that these facilities will experience high volume than usual.
No classes have been canceled at this time, and Johnson expects that the daily operations of the school will not be effected in any way, despite the few buildings that are closed. Local authorities are continuing to work on the scene and are conducting a through investigation.
