Olsen receiving award from Governor

(KNZA)--Rural Horton resident and Brown County Commissioner Keith Olsen was a grand champion winner at this year’s Kansas State Fair in Hutchinson.

Olsen took three different varieties of seed corn to the State Fair.  Olsen said he didn’t think much of his Dekalb entry, but entered it anyway.

Olsen said he couldn't believe it when Brown County Extension Agent Matt Young notified him by text that he had won in two classes.  Olsen then competed for grand champion against all the first place winners from ten seed companies at the fair, and his   Dekalb entry won the “ Grand Champion” overall.

Olsen received a plaque from the Kansas Corn Growers Association
and a cash reward for $100. Each class winner received $15.

This past weekend, Olsen traveled back to the state fair to receive his award from Governor Sam  Brownback.
