Speaker Brings Life To Classic Tales
10/02/2013

(KAIR)--Fans of the works of J.R.R. Tolkien will have a chance to hear a different spin on the writings of their favorite writer Monday night at St. Benedictine college. Many of these readers have said that reading these works feels more like having an experience than reading a book.

Professor Michael D.C. Drout, Professor of English and Director of the Center for the Study of the Medieval at Wheaton College, will be presenting his lecture “The Tower and the Ruin: How to read J.R.R. Tolkein's creation”.  One of the main topics he will discuss is the surprising feature of Tolkien's work, in that he is able to create the impression that certain elements of his texts are genuinely old. Drout thinks that this is one of the main reasons why his work has never really been able to be duplicated.

This presentation is set for Monday night at 7:30  in the McAllister boardroom  on the fourth floor of the Ferrell academic center. It is free, and everyone is welcome to attend.
