(KNZA)--A Hiawatha High School cheerleader has been selected to participate in the Capital One Bowl halftime show on New Year’s Day.
Dorissa Jenkins, a senior at Hiawatha High, was selected recently as an ALL-American Cheerleader by the producers of the half time show based on her attitude, enthusiasm and ability. Executive producer Bruce Hart says only the nation’s top students who meet stringent “ All American” cast selection criteria qualify to receive the performance opportunity, and its by no means an “ Open Call” production.
The Capital One Bowl football game is held in Orlando, Florida and broadcast nationally on ESPN-TV. The game pits two traditional gridiron powerhouses, the Big 10 and Southeastern SEC athletic conferences, in one of the country’s most prestigious collegiate bowls.
A performance opportunity of this magnitude necessitates a great deal of fund raising and Jenkins is working hard to make it to Orlando. In order to help raise travel money for the trip, she will be selling craft items and baked goods during the Maple Leaf Festival in Hiawatha on Saturday.
